Building Homes One Cup at a Time
Carnegie Group partners with Crawley Open House to tackle homelessness and social exclusion
By Holly Ward, Head of Sales and Marketing
At Carnegie Group, we believe construction is about more than bricks and mortar — it’s about building stronger communities. That’s why we’re proud to be supporting Crawley Open House, an organisation providing vital accommodation and support for people experiencing homelessness, unemployment, loneliness, discrimination, and other forms of social exclusion.
Together, we’re launching an exciting initiative called Building Homes One Cup at a Time — a campaign that brings people together over something as simple and as comforting as a cup of coffee (or builders’ tea!).
A mobile coffee van with a mission
Over the coming months, we will be starting to raise money for a new mobile coffee van. Once we reach our target, we intend that the van will then visit high-traffic areas across Crawley and the South East, serving coffee with purpose. For every cup sold, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to support Crawley Open House and its life-changing work in the community.
But this campaign is about more than raising funds — it’s also about creating opportunities. As part of its skills programme, Crawley Open House is offering training to become baristas, helping people gain valuable experience, confidence, and employment. It is our ambition that these trained baristas will then be the friendly faces serving coffee from the van — earning a fair wage and contributing to something meaningful.
Turning cups into homes
As a construction company, we want to go one step further. Ultimately our dream is to put profits of the coffee van towards a custom-built modular emergency housing unit. Every cup sold will help us get closer to that goal — turning small, everyday acts of kindness into something tangible and transformative.
We’re incredibly excited about this partnership and the positive impact it can have on our community. When we are ready to roll out our first coffee van, we will encourage all our colleagues, clients, and professional partners to get involved — whether by spreading the word, visiting the coffee van, or simply buying a cup that helps build a better future for someone in need. In the meantime please donate to our campaign to get the van on the road!
Together, we can make a real difference — one cup at a time.
